Say hello to Pearl, a sweet seven-month-old former stray from the Fremont area. When she came to us in early June, she was in rough shape. She was terribly thin, dehydrated, and covered in ringworm that had caused severe fur loss. On top of that, she was battling a nasty Upper Respiratory Infection (URI) and suffering from entropion, a painful condition where her eyelid turned inward.
For the next few months, she received non-stop care. She endured eye drops and fluids, multiple rounds of antibiotics and antivirals, and countless medicated baths. After twelve challenging weeks, she was healthy enough for corrective eye surgery.
Today, that difficult chapter is finally behind her. Pearl is fully healed, her vision is clear, and her gorgeous coat has completely grown back — a testament to her remarkable resilience.
After overcoming such a difficult start, the true Pearl has finally emerged. She’s blossomed from a scared stray into a playful, social, and deeply affectionate little girl. She thrives on play, is a champion biscuit-maker, and lives for lap time and snuggles.
After nearly six months in our care, Pearl is eager to meet her forever family. We think she’ll shine brightest in a calm, quiet home where she can feel safe and secure.
Could this little star be your perfect match? Come meet her at our Adoption Center this week! We’re open Wednesdays through Fridays from noon to 5:00 pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Furever Home Update
Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of our community, our Furever Home Campaign is moving forward with incredible momentum!
Construction on our new state-of-the-art veterinary and adoption center is well underway, and we remain on track to open our doors in early 2026. This facility will forever change what is possible for cats in crisis across the Bay Area.
With your help, we’ve already raised $1.88 million toward our $2.5 million goal. Every dollar brings us closer to opening the center fully equipped and ready to care for even more vulnerable cats and kittens.

As we head into the holiday season, I’ve been reflecting on the incredible year we’ve had together. Even with weeks to go in 2025, we’ve already surpassed last year’s total intake and adoptions — and it’s all thanks to the dedication of our staff, volunteers, foster families, and every one of you.
Here are some highlights:
Record Intake: We’ve welcomed more than 1,060 cats and kittens so far, already exceeding our 2024 total.
Record Adoptions: Over 1,020 cats have found homes, and that number continues to climb.
Caring for the Most Vulnerable: We’ve rescued and rehomed more medically fragile cats than ever before, providing the specialized care they urgently need.
These numbers aren’t just statistics. They’re lives saved — cats who arrived frightened, sick, or overlooked, and who are now safe, healthy, and cherished.
Behind these numbers is Ray, a precious soul whose journey reminds us why this work matters.
Ray came to us this summer with chronic respiratory disease, damaged eyes, ringworm, and a long list of other serious medical challenges.
He has been with us for several months now, receiving continuous, intensive care from our veterinary team and the unwavering support of a devoted foster family who meets his every need.
Ray has endured endless treatments — nebulizers, sedated exams, medicated baths, and daily medications. Yet he remains one of the sweetest, most gentle spirits you could ever meet. He purrs during exams, leans into every touch, and simply wants to be loved.
Ray is why Nine Lives exists. We are here for cats like him for as long as they need us, whether that’s two weeks or more than a year, because every cat deserves security, comfort, and a chance to thrive.
This year’s achievements make one thing very clear: we need more space.
Our new building will allow us to double our impact, perform more lifesaving surgeries, and offer expanded specialized care. We’ll be able to help twice as many cats like Ray — the fragile, the forgotten, and those who simply need time and compassion.
As we enter this season of giving, please consider making a gift toward our new home. Your support ensures every cat receives the care they need and the future they deserve.
